The story
Between Feb. 11 and Mar. 21, 1885, the Seattle Daily Post-Intelligencer published reports about Yakima City and the Northern Pacific Railroad. According to those reports, the railroad bypassed the established town to build a company-owned rival townsite, and residents fought to preserve their livelihoods and the town’s survival. A later report alleged that the railroad manipulated land values and abandoned Yakima City’s established citizens for the new townsite; the reports give no further specifics.
