Terms of use
A free archive of Washington newspaper material. The pages are public domain; the editorial work on top of them is not.
Last updated 28 October 2026
This is a plain-language description of how the site works, written by the person who runs it. It is not legal advice, and it is not a substitute for advice from a lawyer.
What this site is
Same Streets is a free archive of Washington newspaper material with editorial summaries. The newspaper pages are public domain and belong to nobody; the summaries, headlines and notes are editorial work and belong to the site.
Using the material
You may read, quote and link freely. If you reproduce a newspaper page, credit the Library of Congress as the source, not this site. If you quote an editorial summary, credit Same Streets and link to the story — and do not present it as a quotation from the original paper, because it is not.
Every story page links to the Library of Congress catalogue record for its paper, so the scan behind a summary is always one click away.
Accuracy
Stories are edited accounts drawn from scanned pages, not transcriptions. They can contain errors. Where a detail matters, read the scan. The site is provided as is, with no warranty of accuracy, and no liability for decisions made on the strength of it.
Comments
Comments are for knowledge about the stories — corrections, memories, sources, questions. Not acceptable:
- harassment, threats, or attacks on people or groups
- advertising, link spam, or unrelated promotion
- personal information about living people
- material you do not have the right to post
Comments are moderated, may be held before appearing, and may be removed. The site may suspend an account that repeatedly breaks these rules.
