A hunting trip to the mountains near Tucannon turns into a desperate search for two missing young men.
The story, cleaned up
A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.
Last Sunday Frank Brunk, Jack Edwards, Leonard Goodrich and George Woods went to Tucannon deer hunting. About Tuesday the hunters got separated and two came up missing. Thursday Leonard Goodrich and one other gentleman, whose name we did not learn, returned home, thinking that perhaps the missing ones had also gone home. They learned that Jack Edwards and one other hunter were still missing. A relief party was at once made up and set out for the mountains, Mr. Goodrich acting as guide. It is feared that the boys are lost and if death has not overtaken them are still wandering in the snow.
“It is feared that the boys are lost and if death has not overtaken them are still wandering in the snow.”
Search and rescue operations in the rugged Cascades and Blue Mountains remain a perennial danger in Washington. Even today, what begins as a routine recreational outing can quickly become a life-or-death situation due to the state's extreme and unpredictable wilderness terrain.
