The Counterfeiter Caught in the Act

Dr. J. S. Methvin, an aspiring counterfeiter, is apprehended after escaping from federal marshals in South Park, claiming he was set up by a partner.

Dr. J. S. Methvin, arrested for counterfeiting, escaped from U.S. Marshals in South Park but was recaptured by Constable Mike Kelly at John McNatt's home. Methvin claimed that his partner, Murphy, was the true mastermind behind the scheme, which Murphy had actually reported to the U.S. District Attorney from the start. Methvin confessed to attempting to forge coins in plaster of Paris molds after struggling to find work as a physician in the city. He expressed bitterness toward Murphy and concern for his wife and children.

“He should be here as the principal and I the accomplice. He is the one responsible for the whole affair.”
