Samuel King and his wife were arrested by detective agents today, charged with shoplifting. It is stated they have been spending several days among large mercantile houses of the city. In their room in the Walling House, north of Yesler, ribbons and laces, the property of A.B. Gage Co., were found. They were introduced to the firm by a man named Joe Poecher, alleged to have a crooked record. Detectives say King and wife are very expert in the business, and are members of the Madame Montaigne New York ring, operating throughout the West.

The Walling House was a prominent mid-19th-century boarding house in early Seattle, a site of transient life during the city's early economic expansion. Today, the area north of Yesler Way sits in the heart of Pioneer Square, where historic hotel spaces have been repurposed for modern housing and retail.
