The Riverside Hotel and Logging Outfit Up for Grabs

William Romines lists his Snohomish hotel and a complete logging setup for sale in a 1878 advertisement.

The story, cleaned up

A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.

The Riverside Hotel, centrally located in Snohomish City, Snohomish county, Washington Territory, is now offered for sale or for lease on any terms to a responsible applicant. Also, seven yoke of cattle with a full outfit of boom and logging chains, complete for any size logging camp. A good bargain is offered to responsible parties for either the hotel or logging outfit. For terms apply to William Romines, Proprietor.

“A good bargain is offered to responsible parties for either the hotel or logging outfit.”

This 1878 advertisement captures the dual nature of early Snohomish County's economy, where hospitality and the timber industry were the bedrock of frontier life. Today, while the 'logging camp' has vanished from the downtown core, the tension between the region's resource-based history and its ongoing transition into a residential and tourist hub remains a central narrative in the growth of Snohomish County.
