Tacoma’s Masonic Temple Opens Its Doors

A landmark for the city’s civic life, the new Masonic temple on St. Helens Avenue was dedicated with elaborate ceremonies today.

The story, cleaned up

A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.

This afternoon the new Masonic temple on St. Helens Avenue was dedicated with elaborate ceremonies. The building is the best edifice devoted exclusively to the use of the Masonic order west of Kansas City. The Washington grand lodge officers were in attendance. At 1 o'clock they assembled in the Mason block, on A street, from where they were escorted to the new temple by the local Masonic orders. The dedicatory service was conducted according to the Masonic ritual and was very elaborate. An excellent literary and musical program was also given. After the ceremony was concluded a reception was given and the guests were afforded an opportunity to see the magnificent new temple. At 8 o'clock tonight a reception will be tendered the grand lodge officers, at which Governor McBride and his staff are expected to be present. After the reception a grand ball will conclude the festivities.
