A Neighborhood Stench in the West End

Residents of Tacoma’s West End demand action after a broken sewer begins dumping raw waste onto an open lot.

Residents of the West End have laid before the city officials their very serious objections against the use of vacant lots for cesspools. Recently, one of the sanitary sewers became clogged, with the result that its filthy contents are running off on the vacant lots at Pine and North Eighth streets. The stench arising from the deposit on the lots is a sore offense to the olfactory nerves of the surrounding property owners.
