Main Street Gunplay Leads to Jail Time

A night of drinking in Walla Walla ends in arrests and fines for two local men.

In the police court yesterday evening, Jack Harris was fined $18 for making a gun play in a Main street saloon earlier in the day. He went to jail. The same fine was assessed to Pat Devine, who was before the court on a charge of being drunk and incapable. Two common drunks also forfeited bonds of $2 each.

Public disorder and gun incidents in downtown commercial areas remain a persistent point of tension in Walla Walla’s civic discourse. While the fines are nominal by modern standards, the intersection of nightlife and police intervention is a century-old municipal constant.
