Milton Man Arrested Following Persistent Search

Edward Tracy was apprehended near a Walla Walla theater following a warrant issued by the county attorney for a serious criminal charge.

Edward Tracy, for whom the authorities have been looking for some time, was arrested this afternoon by Officer Emil Sanderson. About two weeks ago, a warrant was issued out of the superior court for the arrest of Tracy on a charge of rape. The warrant was given to Sheriff Painter, and since then the officers have been searching for the man. He came to Walla Walla this afternoon from Milton and was hitching his horse to a rack in the rear of the opera house when Officer Sanderson placed him under arrest. The girl whom he is charged with committing the crime upon is Louisa Naylor, the daughter of L. O. Naylor, residing at Athena. Tracy is a resident of Milton and is about 23 years of age. Several weeks ago, the Naylor girl came to Walla Walla and her father followed and attempted to induce her to return home. At the time she tried to have him arrested, claiming that he was crazy. She finally returned to Athena but came back to Walla Walla a week ago, when the police sent her home again. The girl's father made complaint to County Attorney Wilson on December 16th, charging Tracy with rape, and the attorney filed an information against him in the superior court. Tracy is now in the city jail and Officer Sanderson has gone to Athena after the Naylor girl.
