A Child Lost to the River

A tragic drowning accident in Melbourne claims the life of an eight-year-old boy while visiting family.

Tragedies involving the Chehalis River were a common and sobering reality for the residents of the early logging towns. Today, the stretch of the river near Melbourne remains a quiet, rural landscape, but it serves as a reminder of how life in the harbor region was inextricably tied to, and often imperiled by, its waterways.
