Aberdeen Boys Crush Montesano in Baseball Showdown

A rivalry game ends in a 23-10 rout, followed by a peace-making ball at Koehler's hall.

The series of ball games between Aberdeen and Montesano has been quite close and the games good ones; but in writing up the game before the last, the Vidette took a chapter from 'Jossh-uer' and had a good deal of fun at the Aberdeen boys' expense, even going to the length of suggesting that if Montesano won on Saturday, the proper caper would be for her 'kid' nine to send us a challenge. This was whistling too soon; and we would respectfully suggest an examination of the following score, and an opinion as to when it will be convenient for Montesano's nine to receive our 'kids'. Aberdeen won with 23 runs against Montesano’s 10. After the game, the boys buried the hatchet, and had a very enjoyable ball in the evening at Koehler's hall.

“This was whistling too soon; and we would respectfully suggest an examination of the following score.”

Local sports rivalries between Grays Harbor towns remain a staple of the region's cultural identity. While the scores today are more modest, the practice of turning municipal pride into athletic competition continues to define the spirit of the Harbor.
