A Close Call with Poison in Cosmopolis

Three children are in serious condition after ingesting belladonna pills left within reach.

The story, cleaned up

A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.

Three children of Mr. Ellis are in a serious condition at present, having eaten some belladonna pills which were within their reach. Although very weak, strong hopes are held for their ultimate recovery. The greatest care should always be taken to place all drugs where they cannot by any possibility be reached by children.

Accidental poisoning remains a major concern for parents, though the 'belladonna pills' of the 19th-century medicine cabinet have been replaced by today's modern child-resistant packaging requirements.
