A Fishhook Accident at Liberty Lake

A fishing outing takes a painful turn when a young boy is accidentally hooked by his companion.

The story, cleaned up

A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.

Word was received here yesterday that Master Arthur Jacot, 4, was quite painfully hurt in an unusual way Tuesday at Liberty Lake. It seems that Arthur and Richard Briggs were fishing in the lake and in throwing out his line, Richard caught Arthur in the cheek with his hook, inflicting a very bad wound. Fortunately, a doctor was close by them and he removed the hook and dressed the wound, and Arthur will soon be all right again.

“In throwing out his line Richard caught Arthur in the cheek with his hook, inflicting a very bad wound.”

Accidents involving fishing gear remain a common peril for families visiting Washington's lakes today. While modern medical access at recreational sites has improved, the childhood memory of a trip to the emergency room is a universal constant.
