Tragedy at the Woodsaw

A young child is killed in a ranch accident near Wilson Creek.

Freddie Davidson, 4-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Davidson, was almost instantly killed in a portable woodsaw at the Davidson ranch near Wilson Creek. The machine was sawing wood near the house and the child was playing near it when his clothes became caught in the machinery and the body was wrapped by a shaft before it could be stopped.

Accidents involving heavy farm machinery remain a profound hazard in rural Washington, echoing this century-old tragedy. The isolation of ranch life meant that help was often too far away to prevent such outcomes.
