Fruit Exchange Plans New Warehouse

The White Bluffs Horticultural Exchange completes its organization and secures a lease from the Milwaukee railroad for a new packing facility.

The story, cleaned up

A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.

The organization of the White Bluffs Horticultural Exchange has been perfected and the officers have been elected. R. B. McMurry is president, R. J. Roberts vice-president, and R. R. Woods is secretary-treasurer. The company is incorporated for $12,000 and Mr. Woods says it is fully subscribed. The Exchange has decided to build a new warehouse instead of buying the Wenatchee Valley Fruit Exchange building, and has leased ground from the Milwaukee railroad, the location being between the two side tracks just east of the John Dower Lumber company office building. Plans for the new warehouse are now being drawn and as soon as these are ready bids will be called for and the construction started as soon as possible.

“The organization of the White Bluffs Horticultural Exchange has been perfected.”

The reliance on rail-side infrastructure shaped the geography of early 20th-century agriculture in the Columbia Basin. Today, those same transit corridors remain central to how Washington's agricultural products reach the global market.
