The Thief Who Stole the Wrong Suitcase
A burglar targeting a North Yakima Avenue home made off with a suitcase, only to find the contents were not quite what he expected.
The story, cleaned up
A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.
A clever thief slipped into the front hall of C. H. Burdick's home, 117 North Yakima Avenue, last night, seized a full suitcase standing there and sped away. He hid in a clump of trees in Wright Park, nearby, and dumped the contents of the suitcase out on the grass. The loot, however, happened to be a quantity of feminine garments and the thief left the suitcase and clothing in disgust. The stolen goods were found in the clump of trees in the park this afternoon and returned to the home.
“The loot, however, happened to be a quantity of feminine garments and the thief left the suitcase and clothing in disgust.”
Wright Park remains one of Tacoma's most cherished public spaces. While theft still occurs in the North End, it is rare for a criminal to abandon their prize so publicly due to a 'wardrobe mismatch' in the middle of our park system.
