Soccer Dispute Settled by Replay

After accusations of biased officiating by a Seattle referee, the Northwest soccer league orders a do-over on neutral ground.

The Tacoma soccer football team has won its protest of the draw game with the Seattle Rangers, the Northwest league having ordered the game played over again on neutral grounds. Tacoma had this game won but for the rank decisions of the Seattle referee, who simply handed scores to Seattle to let his team win. Tacoma is in the lead for the pennant and it is not thought she can be beaten. She plays the Valley City team Sunday at Athletic Park.

“Tacoma had this game won but for the rank decisions of the Seattle referee, who simply handed scores to Seattle to let his team win.”

Sports rivalries between Tacoma and Seattle remain as fierce as they were in 1909, though modern league protocols for neutral referees have significantly evolved from the localized officiating scandals of the early century.
