Duck Hunter Shot in Rowboat Accident

A Japanese hunter near Steilacoom was seriously wounded after his own shotgun discharged in his boat.

The story, cleaned up

A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.

Carelessly handling a loaded shotgun in a rowboat while hunting ducks near Steilacoom yesterday, Yama Cyuchi, a Japanese, was seriously wounded by the accidental discharge of the weapon into his right side and arm. He was hurried to Tacoma and taken to the Fannie Paddock hospital, where his wounds were dressed. Though very weak from loss of blood, the man is in a hopeful condition and little fear is felt for his life.

Accidents involving firearms while hunting remain a recurring theme in Washington’s outdoor recreational reports, though medical outcomes have improved significantly since the turn of the century.
