The Great Highway Debate

The story, cleaned up
A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.
Quite a number of our citizens attended a meeting at Ephrata Tuesday to discuss road matters with road boosters from Ellensburg. The meeting was called by the Ellensburg contingent. Ellensburg seems in favor of the compromise route leaving the Ellensburg-Vantage survey about ten miles east of Ellensburg and running thence to the Columbia river opposite Trinidad and from there to Wenatchee. A ferry is proposed for Trinidad to connect it with Grant county. It was suggested that the North Central Highway should connect with it at Trinidad instead of building to Vantage. The suggestion was favored by Coulee and Hartline and opposed by Ephrata, Wilson Creek and Krupp. Nothing definite was done and a further meeting will be held at Ephrata on September 19th.

Infrastructure projects have long fueled regional tensions in Washington, with towns vying to secure their place on major transit corridors. Today's debates over highway funding and route prioritization echo these century-old arguments over connectivity and economic survival.
