A Stormy Night in Guy

A fierce windstorm terrified residents as strange colors painted the midnight sky.

The story, cleaned up

A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.

A severe windstorm swept through this town Monday night. It blew with such intensity that several outbuildings were upset and sheets of rain and sleet were blown through windows and doors of houses. Many were alarmed and got up and dressed, fearing dwellings would blow over. At midnight the entire sky had a strange pink hue.

“At midnight the entire sky had a strange pink hue.”

Historical weather events like this one in the Palouse serve as a reminder of the raw, untamed power of the regional climate that early settlers faced before modern construction standards.
