Two Convicts Escape Thurston County Jail

A pair of prisoners utilized a stolen bolt to force their cell door open and escape custody Saturday night.

The story, cleaned up

A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.

John F. ('Jack') Gillies, convicted of looting the state industrial insurance funds of more than $20,000, and Henry Roberts, convicted of a statutory offense, escaped Saturday night from the Thurston county jail. The feat was accomplished by sawing off the end of a bolt in the cell door and extricating the bolt, which they used as a lever to break the padlock.

“The feat was accomplished by sawing off the end of a bolt in the cell door.”
