Hanford and White Bluffs Settle the Score on the Court

A fierce high school basketball rivalry concludes as White Bluffs clinches the series victory over Hanford.

The White Bluffs High School is rejoicing over a great victory in the annals of the school. Last Friday, February 16th, our first team won a 25-18 victory over Hanford High School’s first team, in a game played in the Hanford Gymnasium. This game was the fourth of a series of five games between the two schools and, since this victory was the third for White Bluffs, the series is ours. Let us give credit to whom credit is due. The boys on the first team are: Adolph Swanson, captain; Russell Brown, manager; Helge Swanson; Alvin Barge; Robert Sutherland; Charles Ferner and Daniel Williams. Their coach is Mr. John McFee.

“This game was the fourth of a series of five games between the two schools and, since this victory was the third for White Bluffs, the series is ours.”

The fierce rivalry between these two Columbia River towns was short-lived; both communities were essentially wiped off the map during the Manhattan Project to make way for nuclear production. It is a haunting juxtaposition to see such lively, mundane teenage competition reported from towns that no longer exist.
