Sixth Addition Residents Cool to Transit Report

Tacoma’s streetcar committee reports back to the improvement club, but residents remain dissatisfied with the service.

The story, cleaned up

A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.

The residents of the Sixth Addition did not make the welkin ring with cheers when Manager Dimmick’s statement in regard to improved streetcar service was read at a meeting of the Sixth Addition Improvement Club last night. The committee had been appointed at a previous meeting to urge upon the streetcar company the necessity of better service on the South End lines. Enthusiasm over the outcome of the conference was confined chiefly to the member of the committee who read the report. It was decided to take no further action in the matter until the streetcar company had been given time to investigate and make the changes promised. The sidewalk proposition was sidetracked for this year. In the judgment of the members of the club the work of repairing the walks already in was considered sufficient for this season.

“The residents of the Sixth Addition did not make the welkin ring with cheers.”
