Freight Steamer Destroyed by Fire

The steamer City of Denver is lost to fire in the Sullivan Slough, destroying its cargo of hay.

The story, cleaned up

A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.

The steamer City of Denver was consumed by fire on Sullivan slough, near La Conner, yesterday morning. The cook on the boat was slightly burned. The Denver belonged to the Swinomish Trading Transportation company and was used as a freight steamer on the Sound. The fire is supposed to have started from a spark. The cargo of hay which she carried was destroyed.
