From present indications, the rabbit drive next Sunday will be one of the biggest things of its kind ever attempted in this valley. Those participating are requested to gather at any one of the following places: R. J. Roberts, Albert Moede, Robert Nitzsche, W. F. Shaw or the Pool hall at 1 p. m. Captains will take charge at these places and men on horseback will guide the men and keep them in line so that there will be no accidents. The women are expected to drive the cars and park them at the E. W. Steffen place to bring the men home after the drive. Arrangements have been made with the John Dower Lumber company to sell ammunition for the drive at cost. The rabbits this year have become a real menace and have already destroyed a number of melon fields and gardens. Those in charge fully expect that 5,000 of the bunnies will be slaughtered. Ice cold lemonade will be served at Chambers bar, where the drive will terminate.

Mass animal culls were once a standard method of 'pest control' in agricultural communities, reflecting the desperate struggle between farmers and the land. Today, such drastic interventions are largely replaced by more sustainable ecological management, though the tension between agricultural output and wildlife remains.
