Major Business District Blaze in Vancouver

Firefighters battled throughout the night to save the local military reservation as flames consumed business properties.

Fire of undetermined origin recently destroyed three two-story frame buildings, four automobiles and a quantity of machinery in Vancouver, doing damage estimated at approximately $30,000. The fire, which occurred in the heart of the business district, was discovered shortly after midnight. Firemen worked until nearly 6 A.M. to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby business buildings and structures within the United States military reservation. The loss is partially covered by insurance.
