Council Rejects Wage Hikes for City Workers

Tacoma officials see their proposed raises for laborers and inspectors go down to defeat.

There will be no increase in the wages of the building inspector, street foreman, license inspector or teamsters. The ordinance making an increase in the salaries above mentioned and raising teamsters' wages from $4 to $4.50 per day was defeated last night on its final reading. It was proposed to raise the street foreman's salary from $70 to $80 a month, pay the building inspector $85 a month and the license inspector $65. Until recently the offices of building and license inspector were combined and the salary for the two was $85 a month.

“The ordinance making an increase in the salaries above mentioned... was defeated last night on its final reading.”
