Laborers Arrested for Risky Commute Over Tacoma Drawbridge

Workers rushing to the tide flats mills are detained for ignoring city ordinances while crossing a moving bridge.

The story, cleaned up

A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.

R. Bruno, Toney Tegmelefr, Kndlo Ondon, and Stef Herkhiguia, laborers at the mills on the tide flats, were arrested by Bridge Tender Foster at 8:30 this morning for jumping on the draw of the 11th street bridge while it was still in motion. The men claim that they were in a hurry to get to work on time and forgot to stop until the bridge gates were opened. There is a city ordinance against climbing over the bridge gates or jumping on a moving bridge. The men will be tried in police court late this afternoon.

“The men claim that they were in a hurry to get to work on time, and forgot to stop until the bridge gates were opened.”
