City Council Trades Bridge for Park

Tacoma moves toward a new civic layout by demolishing an existing bridge and converting nine acres of gulch into public parkland.

By a vote of 10 to 6, the city council last night approved the plan of changing Tacoma Avenue by abolishing the bridge above the tennis courts and accepting the nine acres of gulch for a public park and paving streets to Old Town. Lynn, Armstrong, Turnbull, Hawley, Jamleson and Rankln were the only men against the program.

“Accepting the nine acres of gulch for a public park and paving streets to Old Town.”
