Exposition Jewelry Heist

A thief disguised as a farmer tricks a clerk during the Tacoma Industrial Exposition to steal jewelry.

The story, cleaned up

A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.

A sneak thief got into the Tacoma Exposition building a day or so ago. He was disguised as a farmer. Several articles were subsequently missing. At one of the jewelry stands he asked the young lady clerk to pick up a programme for him from the floor. While she did it he hooked some small but valuable trinkets from the show case. One suspicious character was searched, but no stolen goods were found on him.
