The story, cleaned up
A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.
The arrest in New York yesterday of Attorney George L. McKay for fraudulent use of the mails, has recalled some incidents in his career when he was in Tacoma practicing law as a partner of E. W. Taylor in 1895. He was then charged with tampering with the records in the county auditor's office, but he succeeded in getting out of the trouble and clearing himself. He soon moved to Seattle and later went to New York. He has been in the brokerage business there.

Small-town papers excelled at 'digging up the past' on residents who moved away and fell into legal trouble, a practice that survives today in local crime reporting and digital archives.
