Missing Wife Returns to Claim Late Husband's Estate

After vanishing for months, a woman returns to Tacoma following the death of her husband, who succumbed to grief.

The story, cleaned up

A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.

Mrs. Anna M. Nelson, wife of Andrew P. Nelson, for whom the entire country has been scoured and a reward of $1,000 offered, is scheduled to arrive in Tacoma tomorrow morning. A dispatch from Helena, Mont., announces that she passed through Helena at 10 o'clock this morning on her way from New York to this city to claim the estate of her husband, who died last Saturday in a Tacoma hospital of a broken heart, caused by his wife's disappearance. Mrs. Nelson disappeared in New York City, October 21 last, and although Nelson spared neither time nor money to locate her, no clue to her whereabouts could be found by the most expert detectives.

“A broken heart, caused by his wife's disappearance.”

The fascination with 'missing persons' and the often tragic, sensationalized reporting on domestic dynamics reflects the era's tabloid-adjacent journalistic style.
