A Dry Swim at the New YMCA

Tacoma’s new YMCA building hosts a unique inaugural event—a dinner held at the bottom of an empty, tiled swimming pool.

The big tiled swimming pool in the new T. M. C. A. building, on D street, was put to use for the first time last night, although not a drop of water was turned into the tank. The leaders' class of the gymnasium gave its weekly dinner in the bottom of the large tank, and the event was most novel and entertaining.

“The big tiled swimming pool... was put to use for the first time last night, although not a drop of water was turned into the tank.”

Repurposing civic infrastructure for social events is a long-standing tradition; the YMCA continues to serve as a hub for community gatherings, though perhaps now with less dining in empty tanks.
