A Home Renovated as a Surprise Greeting

A Seattle husband secretly remodeled and furnished his home while his wife was traveling, unveiling it upon her return.

On Friday evening the beautiful home of Mr. O. Pettis on Mitchell street was thrown open to entertain a party of friends, assembled to welcome home Mrs. Pettis, who has just returned from an extended trip to the Eastern states. During the absence of his wife Mr. Pettis decided to build an addition to his home and thoroughly to remodel the same as a surprise for Mrs. Pettis on her return. He was the recipient of many congratulations from his guests on the complete transformation and the taste displayed. The house was brilliantly lighted with electric lights; the spacious rooms with their new curtains and draperies looked inviting and the decorations helped to make the home complete.

“He was the recipient of many congratulations from his guests on the complete transformation and the taste displayed.”

Home improvement culture and the practice of hosting parties to show off renovations are timeless, though 'Mitchell street' serves as a reminder of how quickly Seattle's street names have evolved since 1893.
