Delayed Hopes in Port Angeles

A much-anticipated townsite lot sale in Port Angeles is postponed as officials scramble to clear legal hurdles and land records.

Port Angeles, Dec. 31 — Capt. William D. O'Toole, register of the Seattle United States land office, arrived here today preparatory to beginning the public sale of townsite lots. Capt. O'Toole will adjourn the sale until Tuesday, in order that proofs of homeseekers filed last week may be passed upon and receipts issued prior to sale. There will be offered about 2,000 lots and some 400 acres of land. So far there are few people in the city for the purpose of becoming purchasers, and it is probable that property will be bought at something near its nominal appraised value. The register was informed by Judge McClinton that it would not be convenient to permit the use of the courthouse, owing to the fact that the building is small and the court will be engaged in the trial of Judge Carust upon a charge of murder in slaying Dr. Derrick.

“It is probable that property will be bought at something near its nominal appraised value.”
