The Man Who Claimed to Cure What Killed Washington

A Seattle physician unveils a 'new system' of medicine that he says has cured his own chronic ailments—and predicts the end of the old medical establishment.

After Catastrophe of Disease But

I have for several years been troubled with a complication of diseases which has taxed the skill of many physicians to whom I have applied.

Eleven months ago I heard of the Histogmetic System of Medicine, and was led to investigate for myself, and have been surprised above all my most sanguine expectations, at the power and simplicity of these medicines. The human system, the old school systems have been simply a repetition of experiments for the past centuries, without any basis on which to build; consequently thousands and millions of human beings have been literally doctored to death. George Washington, the Father of our country, was these victims, and after he was blistered and bled for a simple cold, until the vital system was nearly extinguished, he turned and requested his tormentors to leave him alone, and soon expired.

I have had ample opportunity to test the power of the Histogmetic System of Medicine in various parts of the territory and in many different forms of disease, and am astonished at the wonderful success of these medicines; and through the knowledge and use of them we can see the dawn of a glorious day in the medical world. And although at present the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not, the time is not far distant when the clouds of blinded prejudice will clear away before the bright shining of this simple but recently discovered truth, and the old schools and their votaries will be things of the past.

Dr. J. Eugene Jordan, the father of this new system

In an era where 'old school' medicine relied on bleeding and blistering—practices that often killed as much as they cured—this advertisement for a quack 'Histogmetic' system reflects the desperate public hunger for alternatives. It mirrors today's ongoing tension between established medical institutions and alternative health movements, where patients often turn to unproven therapies when conventional medicine fails them.
