Two Chinese Men Ordered Deported After Prison Term

Lee Wung and Wun Lung were ordered deported for lacking immigration papers after serving a year for forgery—a minor hearing inside the era's exclusion machine.

Two Chinese men, Lee Wung and Wun Lung, were arraigned today before United States Commissioner Bridges, charged with being without the necessary immigration papers, and were ordered deported. The two men, while in the country, have made a bad record. They have just finished serving a one-year term at the United States penitentiary for forgery committed at Nome.

“Charged with being without the necessary immigration papers, and were ordered deported.”

Deportation for paperwork and criminal records is still a routine part of immigration enforcement, and the consequences can be lifelong. This small item shows exclusion operating not only through riots and laws but through ordinary courtrooms.
