She Dreamed of a Murder Before the Body Came Out of the River

A Montesano boarding-house worker told police she saw William Kittrell's death in a dream two weeks before he vanished — and his body was pulled from the Chehalis with robbery suspected.

Aberdeen — Mystery surrounding the death of Wm. Kittrell, aged 31, of Montesano, whose body was found in the Chehalis river at Chehalis boom, is deepening into suspicion that Kittrell was the victim of a robbery and murder plot.

Mrs. M. Biri, an employee of the boarding house where Kittrell lived while in Montesano, says that two weeks ago she dreamed that Kittrell had been murdered and his body thrown into the river. Mrs. Biri says that the day Kittrell disappeared he told her that she would never see him again. This statement, she says, made an unusual impression on her, inasmuch as she had never seen Kittrell before that time.

“Mrs. Biri says that the day Kittrell disappeared he told her that she would never see him again.”

Grays Harbor's river towns were logging camps and boarding houses, where a stranger could vanish and only the people who served him meals would notice. The paper treated a woman's dream as evidence worth printing — a reminder of how thin the line between witness and suspicion has always been in small-town death investigations.
