A $6,500 Bet That Ione Would Boom

A Newport businessman buys a quarter-section as railroad talk sends ranch prices climbing around Ione.

W. C. Moeser has purchased the A 1 Fish quarter section just west of Ione, paying $6500 for it. Ranches in the vicinity of Ione are bringing good prices of late, evidently on the supposition that there will be a townsite at Ione, and that it will be the terminus of the Metaline extension of the I. W. N. for some time.

Land prices rose on a rumor of a railroad terminus—a pattern that still shapes rural Washington real estate. The Ione speculation shows how transportation promises can turn pasture into a boom market overnight.
