A Seattle Murder Hearing, and a Widow's Jailhouse Visit

Paul Page was set to face a justice of the peace for killing Harry Fraser. Then Fraser's wife returned from Boston and tried to see the accused.

The preliminary examination of Paul Page, charged with killing Harry Fraser, will take place this morning before Justice of the Peace W. P. McElwain. The prosecution is ready to present its case and the defense has not intimated that it will ask for a continuance.

Mrs. Harry Fraser, wife of the man Page killed, arrived in the city last night from Boston, where she went with the remains of her husband. She was away from the city just one week. After Mrs. Fraser's unaccountable trip to the county jail to try to see Page, the officers of the law will use every precaution to see that no extraordinary scene takes place.

A century before cameras and court livestreams, a Seattle murder hearing turned on a widow's startling jailhouse visit. The case is a reminder that victims' families, pretrial publicity and courtroom security are not modern inventions.
