New Lodging House Opens to Meet Housing Demand

As Newport grows, a new lodging house named after the town's namesake opens to accommodate the influx of workers.

Mrs. L. McKee has completed a new lodging house between the depot and town. She has named it the Newport, as she was a former resident of that place. It is still difficult for workmen to obtain good accommodations at reasonable prices, but this will be remedied in the near future, as a number of lodging houses will be finished during January.

“It is still difficult for workmen to obtain good accommodations at reasonable prices.”
