Everett Laborites Plan a New Headquarters
After outgrowing their current space, the Trades Council eyes a new permanent home on 32nd and Wetmore.
The regular weekly meeting of the Trades Council was called to order at 8:00 p.m. on January 19, with Vice-President Sam Allen in the chair. The Council discussed the acquisition of stock in a new labor temple. The Labor Temple association has purchased two lots on the corner of 32nd and Wetmore for a new site, paying one-third of the purchase price down. The Journal encourages every union man and woman in the city to start the agitation that shall result in a systematic building campaign for a new and modern Labor temple.
“We have outgrown our present quarters, ere long we must have a new building. Let us start the agitation that shall result later on in a systematic building campaign.”
Everett has a long history of institutional labor presence, and the dream of a 'Labor Temple' reflects the era's focus on collective ownership and physical space for civic organizing. Today, the debate over how workers secure and maintain space in an increasingly expensive city continues to mirror these early efforts to solidify a permanent foothold.
