The college purchases the historic Baker residence to complete its quadrangle and announces significant faculty changes for the coming year.

The story, cleaned up

A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.

At the annual meeting of the trustees of Whitman college, held in Walla Walla, a decision was made to purchase the grounds and residence of Mrs. D. S. Baker to complete the college campus. The property, located on the west side of the campus, consists of an 18-room mansion and nearly three acres of land. The cost of the acquisition is $11,000, bringing the total estimated value of the campus land to $75,000. Additionally, the college announced several faculty changes, including the appointment of Professor Edward E. Ruby to the Latin department and Professor Perley C. Hyde to the mathematics department. W. H. Cowles of Spokane and Allen H. Reynolds of Walla Walla were re-elected to the board of trustees.

“It was inevitable that in time it should become a part of the campus and complete the great quadrangle.”
