The River Side Hotel: A New Chapter in Snohomish Hospitality

Under new management, the historic River Side Hotel has been fully refitted, promising the 'first class' comforts of a modern boarding house for the growing Snohomish community.

The story, cleaned up

A cleaned-up reading of the newspaper page: spelling and layout repaired, one story lifted off a crowded page. It follows the original closely but it is not a transcription. The original page is below; read it if a detail matters.

RIVER SIDE HOTEL, SNOHOMISH CITY, WASHINGTON TERRITORY. H.W. HYDE. Having recently leased this convenient and well-known hotel building for a term of years and refitted it in good style, I beg leave to inform the community that I am now prepared to accommodate the public. I propose keeping a strictly First Class Hotel. The table will be supplied with the best the market affords. First quality of wines, liquors and cigars always on hand. Every attention will be shown for the convenience of those who patronize this house.

“The table will be supplied with the best the market affords.”

This 19th-century advertisement captures the era's focus on the boarding house as the essential infrastructure for a transient, labor-driven frontier town. Today, Snohomish still grapples with balancing the preservation of its historic character against the housing pressures of a modern, rapidly growing metropolitan region.
