Tacoma Signs On for an $86,400 Stadium

The school board awards the amphitheater contract to the Western Engineering Company, with construction waiting only on Northern Pacific approval.

The stadium contract was formally awarded by the school board to the Western Engineering Company yesterday afternoon, and the big project is a go. Work will be started just as soon as Manager H. C. Nutt of the N. P. approves the plan, which will be this week, and the contractor expects to have the amphitheater ready for summer games. The cost will be $86,400.

The stadium became Tacoma's Stadium Bowl, still cut into the hillside above Commencement Bay. Then as now, a public stadium was sold as an investment in civic pride and the promise of future crowds.
